A VICTORY FOR MUMIA

A week ago, Temple University Purpose, a right-wing Islamophobic student group at Philadelphia's Temple University, broke from its regular hate machine to screen a movie unfavorable to journalist Mumia Abu-Jama, whom many believe was wrongly convicted and sentenced to death for killing Officer Daniel Faulkner. The screening backfired on them as most of the people that were in the room were Mumia supporters, including Pam Africa, who ripped TU Purpose head Alvaro Watson and movie producer Tigre Hill to shreds. This week gave us something else to smile about. Mumia was granted a new sentencing hearing, which means he may now serve life in prison as opposed to execution. While sadly he has exhausted his appeals for a new trial - unless new evidence is presented - we can at least hope for this. And of course those who put him in jail are still going to push for the death penalty. Linn Washington, Jr. has the latest on Mumia's case.
